Do you think it's better to buy the iPhone 3g from Apple, or Amazon/eBay sites? I think the cheapest (and unactivated) ones will be on ebay. What do you think?

All 3G iPhones will only be available for purchase in Apple Stores and AT&T Stores across the United States. Upon purchasing a 3G iPhone, you'll have to commit to a minimum 2-year contract with AT&T, and you cannot leave the store without this contract. Therefore, you will not be able to purchase a 3G iPhone from eBay or Amazon. (Although I'm sure that there will be 3G iPhones on eBay and Amazon some way or another)

This activation process is due to the fact that Apple is trying to reduce or completely eliminate unlocking.

You can only purchase the iPhone from eBay, not the 3G iPhone.

I believe that he is referring to the 3G iPhone as this was posted under the WWDC section.

it sucks that apple only chose at&t why not verizon, tmobile and/or sprint??? even know people will most likely unlock them they still should be available on other carriers (U.S.wise)

Apple's first choice was Verizon, but verizon turned them down because they didn't like the rules and regulations that Apple had. That's probably the biggest mistake they've ever made. I know so many people who left verizon because they wanted the iPhone.

With Apple having one exclusive carrier of the 3G iPhone, it's easier for them to manage.

cuz Verizon/sprint suck and at&t is paying big buck buck buck's to apple for having the iphone exclusively for them
