I updated my 2G Touch to 3.0 via iTunes (I paid my 10 bills). But where is 'my' 3.0 IPSW file actually located? Doing a search in WinXp for *.ipsw finds nothing and through the various tutorials I've read, the directory structure given to find the file doesn't come close to what I have on my machine (Xp).

So while I've succesfully jailbroken my 2G Touch with redsn0w 0.7.2....I still had to download the 3.0 software independently in order to point redsn0w at an 3.0 IPSW file during the jailbreak. Does this HAVE to happen this way, or can I use my own 3.0 file I got from iTunes? If I can use my own, where's it at?

TIA for the help, much appreciated.

Usually in C:\Documents and Settings\Users\YourName\Appdata\Local\Apple\Apple Software Update\ - Or something along those lines...

Or you could just do a search for "iPod2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw"

I would have thought searching *.ipsw would have found it...but no dice. I'll try the whole filename this evening. I'm on a work PC atm though (Xp) and even looking at the directory structure on this machine doesn't come close to what you have outlined above (I have iTunes 8.2 installed on this machine).

Either way, it's definitely under "Documents and Settings\..\" and not "Program Files\..\", correct?

Yes. Definitely not in program files. Unless you put it there.

Documents and Settings\<User Name>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates on XP for the update purchased via iTunes. It should be here.

Try that. As I'm not currently running XP, I don't know for sure.

Mystery solved: Application Data is a hidden folder by default...I didn't have "Show Hidden Files and Folders" checked off.

    Thanks again for the help.
