I think we could try to establish a relation (if it exists) between the Ipods 2G manufactured date and the WIFI problem after 3.X.

Mine has Serial number 9C84XXXXXXXX and i bought on November 2008.

I purchase mine mid-april with 2.2.1 firmware i think... Wifi worked fine and i could pick up our wireless from anywhere in the house. After updating to 3.0 i could only pick up the wireless from certain areas of my house.
I read somewhere that the wifi chip in the ipod touch is used as a blue tooth chip as well after the update. Not sure if this is true of not but i think this is a possible answer to the problem of the wifi issues. (Its what im blaming it on for the moment.)

If the problem is the router how can you explain it works flawlessly with 2.2.1??

There is a LOT of people having issues after 3.X updates,so something is wrong....

Bought my iPod touch 2g end of May, it came with 2.2.1, Wifi was perfect everywhere in my house. Since updating to 3.0, Wifi signal varies, from one bar to full even if I stay in the same place

Purchased mine the end of April. Wifi worked great. When 3.0 was released, and I read about problems after upgrading, I decided to wait. During a weak moment, I did upgrade when 3.1 arrived, thinking the bugs were gone. I lost wifi. The range was much shorter, signal kept dropping out. I restored, re loaded, tried all i could. I needed to rollback to 2.2.1, but then found out that wasn't possible. I made an appointment at the Genius bar. I just wanted my 2.2.1 back, but was told that could not be done. Also, at the Apple Store they were unaware of any problems with 3.0/3.1 wifi problems. The tech ran a few tests, connecting my touch to his macbook pro. A few minutes later he gives me a form to sign, and opens a plain white box with contained another ipod. Another 2G with 2.2.1. I asked if he thought I should try 3.1 on this one and he said it's up to you. Needless to say I still have 2.2.1 running, with no problems. Also, the unit he gave me had a 935 production date. A nice, brand new unit. Thank you Apple!
