If it is the same as the 2nd Gen then why will it only do a tethard jailbreak insted of a full one? I keep seeing people say that the 8GB is just a 2nd Gen and only the 32GB and 64GB are 3rd Gen. Now I have a new 8GB I got for my brother and I can't jailbreak it... Great...

Because it has a new bootrom/iBoot/thing.

Just has the same processor + RAM + etc.

The specs are exactly like the 2nd gen models, but it has the new bootrom which makes the jailbreak tethered.

If it is just a new boot ROM then why is the jailbreak taking so long? there were on to something months ago so why is the 8GB still tethard?

Well, the creator of blackra1n (Geohot) was never working on an untethered jailbreak. And the creators of greenpois0n (Chronic Dev) are supposedly waiting for the new iPhone to be released, then they will release greenpois0n so Apple doesn't patch the exploit that they have in the next generation iPhones.
