I see this added as a new feature in the apple website, does anyone know the actual hidden meaning behind this? I can play multiplayer games with my friends sitting beside me, or global multiplayer games just fine in firmware 2.2.1, what's being updated here?

Bonjour through bluetooth. iPhone and iPod Touch 2G users can play games while within bluetooth range.

With 3.0, its will use Bluetooth, making it faster than Wifi on 2.2.1.

I'm guessing it means now 2 ipods/iphones can play multiplayer on a bus over bluetooth.

    I am not sure either.

I am not sure either of how it's going to turn out but discovery of other Bluetooth iPhone or iPod touch by Bluetooth bonjour is pretty much guaranteed and than ad-hoc wifi initiated between the player recognized by Bluetooth I thinks is the best idea.

Battery would drain so fast though.
