DFU mode is just a deeper recovery mode and u can downgrade firmware in itunes but mostly ull end up with error 1 recovery is when ur ipod needs to be restored and i dont know what restore mode is

DFU mode is putting your ipod or iphone in a state of no return, it locks the system up leaving you to restore, because you are not operating the system, it allows you to downgrade

Recovery Mode: Just a mode that says your ipod needs to be recovered do to some problem (connect to itunes screen)

Restore Mode: Same as Recovery Mode

Actually you should always use DFU mode to restore because it erases every trace of anything leaving you with a brand spankin used device

Correct. Unless they can dig deep enough and find something (which I'm sure they won't)

So how do you put the ipod into the different modes? Recovery and DFU?

The only steps I've heard is turn the ipod off and then hold home button while plugging in cable (getting the connect to itunes logo)

What you just said is putting it into Recovery Mode, to put it in DFU mode: 1. Have iPod connected to computer with iTunes open. 2. Hold sleep and home buttons together. 3. Once the iPod dissappears or disconnects from iTunes, let go out the sleep button but keep holding the home button. 4. After a little bit iTunes might come up with an error, just simply reconnect your iPod and now you're in DFU mode.
