The iPhone 3G was still the iPhone 3G with the 2.x firmware. I think you need to look up the difference between 3G technology, and the definition of firmware version numbers.

ipod touch 3rd Gen would be a new device, like the ipod touch 2n gen to 1st gen.

it'll be the same ol' 1st/2nd gen.

Apple has never called it the "Second Generation iPod touch" or "iPod touch 2G". That's a term coined by the outside community. Officially, it's iPod2,1: the next one being iPod3,1.

ok. thanks for replies. i guess i thought that #G was the firmware. apparently there not related lol. so you could, for example have a ipodtouch 1G with 3.0 firmware?

oh, i get it. the firmware will be called 2,3,0? cuz right now i have 2,2,1
