About 1 week before school started, my iPod touch 2nd generation crashed and ended up in an endless boot cycle. Because of that, I was forced to restore to 2.2.1 firmware and lost my jailbreak. I decided I would just re jailbreak when I had time, so I planned on doing it last weekend. The problem is that my harddrive crashed and delted all the information stored on it.(dell was kind enough to send a replacement for free after a technician came out and diagnosed that it was a hardware error in the drive itself...)Besides the 300+GB of information, 2K +songs(not pirated or illegal), I also lost itunes 8.2 and my jailbreak programs.

I really wanted to get to 3.0 with or without a jailbreak. If there is any way possible can you help me out?
    I have itunes 9 with a ipod touch 2nd gen, 2.2.1 firmware.

    Please help me out, thanks!

Are you saying you want to update your iPod touch to 3.0 firmware?

Correct (I think). I want to update to 3.0 and then be able to jailbreak from that if I feel like I want to it. I want 3.0 because alot of app's require 3.0 software to run them. Also 3.0 is the only firmware to be jailbroken after 2.2.1 for ipod touch 2 g if I recall correctly.

So I can do this with iTunes 9.0 correct?

    Step 1) download 3.0 2g software
Step 2) Shift click in itunes and restore it to 3.0
    Step 3) Profit?

    Is that correct?

Not sure what you mean by profit but yeah that seems right.

My mistake, you have to download the iTunes 8.2 from the link he provides, then you can do it. I'm not sure if it will work on iTunes 9.

I meant profit as getting 3.0 from 2.2.1

68% on 3.0 for my 2nd gen, 5 minutes more.
Anyways, thanks so much for your help.
I will get back to you after I finish the restore to 3.0....ive seen people put their ipod in dfu before going to 3.0, do I have to do this or can I just shift+click then find my restore file with no dfu.

Should be able to use redsnow to I believe.
