When something happens server side, they ping you instead of you pinging them.

When the server gets a response, they send something to you. Instead of you having to monitor the server itself.

So basically, lets say you have an IM app opened. The app stays closed and when you receive a message, the server pings your iPhone instead of having a constant connection between the server and the iPhone.

I don't understand this, either. I thought there was already Push available.

I've used a Mail2Web account with BeeJive IM.
    Isn't that the same thing?

If so, what's so special about this announcement?

Say you close BeejiveIM, but stay logged in. You close the connection, but if you get a new message while it's closed, the servers will push your iPod a number notification (see: badge). When you open BeejiveIM again, you can download the message and read it.
