I've had my iPod touch for about 2 months now but I've never heard about "Jailbreaking" until today when I joined this forum.

    Anyone mind explaining?

Allowing your device to run 3rd party applications.
It's done by either flashing the NOR(1G and iPhone) or restoring to a "hacked" firmware(2G).
These application are called packages and can be downloaded through either Cydia or Installer.
    The most popular packages are:

    Winterboard: Theming
    OpenSSH: FTP into iPod/iPhone
    Emulators
    Widgets

    And many others

The only risk is that it voids your warranty, but a simple restore turns everything back to normal.

Just search around Google or Youtube.

But, it basically allows you to access your iPod's file system, install 3rd-party apps, customize and theme your iPod, and a lot of other things.

So when you Jail break an iPod touch what happens? Are you still able to use iTunes app store and all of that or what? What are the pros and cons? lol

    Everything from Apple.....And MORE.

The only con is that it voids your warranty, but a simple DFU restore un-voids it again.

    Battery life & system stability/speed aren't cons?

Pros: Games Themes Widgets Root Access etc.

Cons: Not really any, DFU mode fixes basically anything. Voids your warranty, but a restore to normal firmware would get it back.

There is no 3rd Gen iPod touch.
And both iPod touches are Jailbreakable.
