on the dev-team blog, they mentioned hactivating. Is this where one downloads the firmware illegally, or is there some other activation process that is undergone after the new firmware is on the device?

    Thanks, Vinca.

No, all iPhones require 'Activation' with iTunes, which I can only presume tells Apple how many iPhones there are in use, but before the Activation, you can only call 911 (or 999), and do nothing else.

Hacktivation is where the iPhone believes it has authorized itself with Apple and is ready to be used, but the Dev team's software has done it.

so when the dev team says that youtube doesn't work on hacktivated devices, it doesn't affect the iPod?

if they've got a workaround for the first bug, why don't they release quickpwn for ipod and if iphone users use it, well they can still use mxtube for videos

on a similar note, if i want to update my ipod touch, and have the firmware file itself, whether its 2.2.1 or 3.0, on a disk, or have the file on my desktop,
would i just go into itunes and shift click restore to upgrade??

hacktivation does not apply to the ipod, so it should work with youtube

but then this begs the question as to why they havent released a jailbroke 3.0 for ipod touch? my thought is they would rather just release both at the same time personally, i have the legal 3.0, but i would much rather be jailbroke to do with my device as i wish.

Because then they'd have to have several versions of QuickPwn and Pwnage tool and that's what they're trying to avoid. I wish they would do that, because only like 3% of the iPhone users are hacktivated (guessing) and which ones actually use YouTube? The youtube app sucks.
