I keep running into threads that refer to permissions and changing them to777 or775. I've never done that before and my ipod seems to work. Can u change permissions in total commander?

Basically, some apps need to be given permission in order to change certain files... eg to change wallpaper or plist or w.e. So thats what it is

777 is the highest permission, 755 is what most need to be. I use WinSCP to change permissions. Log in to SSH using WinSCP and then find the application you need to change, right click > properties then change the permissions. But you might not have to do that, as you said you havent had any problems, so you should be fine

Win-SCP is the best permission changer, search the forums, there are plenty of guides. A permission like 555, doesn't allow the app to do most of its functions, and so it will crash. Like someone saying to you get that free MacBook Pro, but you cant walk because you don't have permission to(If you tried you would crash). LOL. 777 Gives it full permission. You only need to know about this when installing applications manually by putting them in the apps folder.
