what hard drive do i have

    as in the title, i want to find out what port i have on my hard drive as want to buy a new 1 i have an acer aspire 5050 and my OS's are: vista + Ubuntu. any help at all is appreciated

    Take it apart and send up a pic, you can even send it directly to me if its to hard to get it up on the forum. I say to take a pic cause some companies have been using non standard sata connectors and you wont have room to shove in an adapter after the fact.

    Yeah but this wont tell your if your SATA drive has a standard port or one of the minipower sata ports some companies use.

    look on the back of your computer. there will be a little panel that you can take off to replace the hard drive. Take it off. Now take off the hard drive (your computer should be off for this) Look at the hard drive's connectors. If it is SATA it will be a row of flat pins. However, no matter what the pins will be parallel to the large flat sides of the drive. If the pins are facing perpendicular to the flat side of the drive then you have a laptop adapter, take it off with a gentle tug to see the pins of your hard drive. And if you replace the drive, remember to keep the adapter.

    Dude you don't need to take your laptop apart just to find out what type of harddrive you have.
