what does it do and is it useful/necessary?
When you(or someone) wants to restore their iPod, it gives you a choice if you want to restore from a back-up. You can encrypt it with a password so only you can restore from your back-up. I myself don't use it, due to the fact that I'm the only one in my family that has an iPod.
It will put a password on the backup, so when you restore from it you will need to type the password.
whats the point of that? why would i care if someone else used my backup?
if you were a business man with confidential files on it...
are you a business man?
if so, encrypt it, else forget it
