What does a jailbroken apple tv do?

    Exactly my question (the subject).

    I am unaware of this device, i have seen video on Apple TV. That you can rent movies from itunes.

    But when you jailbreak apple tv, what does it do?

    can someone please give the summary about utility of Apple Tv?

    If you jailbreak you can install third party apps, like I just jailbroke my apple tv 2 on 4.4.4.

    I did it for Plex on my atv2 which allows me to watch any type of movie/serie I want without iTunes. And it looks awesome, because it fetches all the covers of the movies and summaries.

    You can install a lot more too, like couchsurfer(browser). Be sure to check for Plex/xbmc/atv flash black.

    Thanks. How does it work? Is it dependent on computer or simply works without computer using direct internet connection?

    It is connected via your network. The ATV2 connects to your tv and gets content over wifi or Ethernet
