    Hi,
I guess I'm what you guys called a "noob" when it comes to iPod hacking. Coming into this world I see lots of terms that I don't know what they mean. Can you guys help me out because I'm lost. Below are some of the terms I keep seeing, but no explanation to what they actually mean. Perhaps a mod can make this thread a sticky, or make a Wiki? Please feel free to add other terms that I'm sure I have missed.

    Many thanks!

Btw, please don't say "search" because there are lots of "noobs" coming to this site constantly looking for the same information. This site is great, except for the lack of any explanation of what these words mean. Perhaps this thread could be the starting point you veterans all send the noobs too in the future.

    • yellowsn0w - iPhone 3G carrier unlock (T-Mobile on an iPhone)
    • redsn0w - iPod touch 2G jailbreak
    • redTool - Well written tool for the iPod touch jailbreak
    • QuickFreedom - Another tool, same as above
    • QuickPwn - Same as above, but hasn't been updated for iPod touch 2G yet
    • NOR Flash - Rewrites the NOR chip on your iPod to turn a tethered jailbreak into untethered
    • Xpwn - Program to make a custom firmware, very much like PwnageTool
    • DFU counter - Timer which helps you get into DFU mode
    • LIBPNG - Mac Only, compatability issues with Untetherizer
    • LIBUSB - Program which allows your computer to "read" USB ports.

    Hope this helped.

You guys are awesome!!! Unbelievably quick too!!! Finally a starting point for a noob like me!!! Keep adding to it, so far what you guys described would have taken me a day to figure out.

Can a mod make this into a sticky?
Or even make a readonly thread that has these terms in it?

I don't think questions ever stickied, and there are other threads on this, you should've searched.

There are already several threads which encompass this stuff, I'm not sure a sticky is required.

I'm glad you've got your answers though!
