How does Devicescape actually do anything different than the normal wifi that the ipod touch has? And what does the stumbler do other than give you more info about the wifi signal?

i believe stumbler finds unbroadcasted wifi access points (hence the mac addresses)

wifi settings only shows the broadcasted access points, so in that aspect, stumbler does more

But what can you use if for?
I mean.. it is in fact kind of pointless.

If you dont have a wifi signal in range tht your touch can recognize, then stumbler will seek out hidden signals thus allowing you to connect to wifi.

yea but what does devicescape do.. that's the REAL question.

Stumbler's purpose is quite obvious, but I really havent been able to figure out the role of devicescape, and their website fails miserably at explaining it.

It automatically logs you into wifi hotspots that require a web login. For example, at my university, every time I connect to the wifi I have to type my username and password in a website that comes up, with devicescape, it does this for me, saving me about the minute it takes to log in with no need to keep typing usernames and passwords.

How do I log on to the hidden signal with Stumbler? I've found one, but other than seeing the information I didn't find any log-on options in Stumbler.

You have to set it up on their site.
