i read everyone say that you can only brick an ipod touch if you are trying to. Well im about to jailbreak and i want to know what these 'ways' are so then i will just feel better about jailbreaking (in a weird way i will feel better if i know how to brick it).
    i want serious answers please
    anything that permanently breaks
    thanks

Why would you want to brick your $300 iPod?

i want to know this so i feel safe. i will feel safe if i know the only possible ways to brick it.
like if i know there are only a certain number of things i can do to brick it, i will feel reassured that its ok to jailbreak
. i absolutely dont want to brick it

If you follow the tutorials exactly, you won't brick your iPod.

The best thing to do is to use a GUI.

The only way to brick your iPod is to smash it with a brick.

Seriously. Physical damage is the only way to brick an iPod touch. You will always be able to restore if something goes wrong.

I've heard deleting certain files and running certain commands.. Are these true? And what are they?

Won't brick it. DFU mode is located in the bootrom, which is Read-Only memory. You can't do anything to it. Therefore, you will always be able to enter DFU mode and restore.

Oh, and the command you're thinking of is "sudo rm -rf". Deletes your iPod's entire filesystem.

ssh'ing in and deleting /bin, and rebooting, it will never be fixed, and permanetly disabled

There's a Unix command that can properly brick your device - this is the only known way that you can brick. You don't need to know any more about it, so there's the sensible answer to your question and now we can all stop talking about it.
