I am considering jailbreaking my 2nd gen iPod touch (runnning 3.1.2), but I have a couple of questions I'd like answered first.

    1. What is the chance that my iPod will be bricked?

    2. If jailbreaking does end up bricking my iPod, what is the chance that I will not be able to restore it?

    3. What kinds of things does jailbreaking allow me to do with my iPod?

    4. What method should I use to jailbreak it? Blackra1n, pwnage tool, or something else?

    5. I know that jailbreaking itself is legal, but what kinds of things am I not allowed to do. I want to make sure that I do not do something illegal!!

    Thanks in advance!!!

    1) 0%
    2) It won't brick your iPod a restore will always fix it
    3) Themes, emulation, multitasking ect. There is to much to list you will be amazed when you see all the possibilities.
    4) Blackra1n is the easiest so probably that.
    5) If its illegal on your computer its illegal on your iPod. Don't download copyrighted protected material for free (this includes music, videos, and apps)

I have just a few more questions:

    1. Can I use Cydia to install Installer.app?
    2. I've heard of lots of people who used Blackra1n and had problems with their iPod. Is there anything I can do (or not do) to stop these problems from occuring?

    1. No, and why would you want to?
    2. Personally, I had no problems.

    1. No, Cydia is just an upgraded, better looking version anyway. Unless your thinking of installous, which is not allowed to be mentioned on the forums, so don't post about it (just a forewarning

    )
    2. The problems you've heard of are perobably people with 3G ipods, so no problem there

I already know how to use Blackra1n, so I don't need a tutorial, but thanks anyway.

If Installer.app is just an older version of Cydia, then I shouldn't need both.
    Thanks for all the help!

dont download anything that isnt talked about on this site, illegal stuff you have to add a new repo on cydia anyways. and also installer you cannot get by blackra1n im not even sure how u can get it anymore, its so outdated. through blackra1n u have an option between cydia and rock app. go with cydia

I'm using a 2nd gen iPod touch running 3.1.2. If I use Blackra1n is it going to be a tethered or un-tethered jailbreak? What is the difference between the two?

an iPod or iPhone cannot be bricked , DFU mode will always work , since its in a different chip than the normal recovery mode.

I just jailbroke my iPod with Blackra1n and downloaded Cydia. When I opened Cydia, I got an error message informing me that some important files were not downloaded and that this could cause some issues. Should I un-jailbreak my iPod and then re-jailbreak it? If so, should I try using pwnage tool instead of Blackra1n? I do not know much about this method, so I would appreciate a step-by-step tutorial on the process of jailbreaking with pwnage tool on a Mac running Snow Leopard (10.6).

    Thanks!
