So, many of you may be wondering, what actually IS the Google Chromecast, what is actually insied it, what makes it work?

Well, so were the guys at iFixit, and they answered it for us.

So, as you can see (or not) the Chromecast has an Azure Wave AW-NH387 802.11 B/G/N, Bluetooth, Marvell DE3005-A1 SoC. There is also 4GB of Internal Storage (so there may be something big planned, because I am guessing that the 'current' Chromecast OS doesn't take up the whole 4GB) and 512MB of RAM.

The 4 GB will be for streaming - you need storage for a buffer zone, and 4 GB sounds about right, especially at 1080p.

That's alot for $35 and with the price of the box and all the cables I don't see how they could make any money. I was also wonder how this thing has the power to stream 1080p when my older laptop couldn't even stream 1080p without stuttering.

Well, I guess it shows that all that stuff is actually rather cheap. Your laptop had to run Windows, using up RAM, then your Web Browser using up more RAM, so if you didn't have much RAM that's how it would go.

    Does
Wouldn't Chromecast use the RAM of the device streaming to your TV?

It was the graphics processor so I don't see how this little thing could have enough power to render 1080p and it does run Chrome OS.

Actually, it's based on bits from Google TV and Android. There is no Chrome OS in it.

There seems to be a hacking community devoted to it all of the sudden so maybe something good can come out of this?

You'd be surprised how cheap these things actually are.
