Today, I decided to call Apple to get some of the questions out there answered.

My first question was if the updated 8GB had any changes done to it.
    The answer was 'no.'

I followed up that question by asking about why then did the 8GB have 6 less hours of battery life for audio.
She put me on hold for 15 MINUTES and responded by stating that the 3.1.1 firmware update was bigger and required more processing which lowered battery life. (I don't believe this)

My next question was why the earphones details screen mentioned the 5th gen nano but only the second gen touch.
She stated that the 32 and 64GB versions were just updates, and they did not technically refer to them as 3rd generation.

I asked if the updated 32 and 64 had the oleophobic screen coating that the 3gs has.
(another long hold) She talked to tech support and said that it does not have an oleophobic screen coating, it is the same as the 2g.

After she answered I referenced her saying that they didn't call it a real 3rd generation, and asked if she knew if or when a real one would come out.
She told me that they had no idea because Apple Headquarters keeps them in the dark until right before its release. But that, it would most likely not happen until next September.

These were real questions and answers from me to a real Apple employee that I got ahold of through 1-800-my-apple. I am in no way saying that I personally believe that the new iPod touch is not a real 3rd generation, as I own one and am very happy with the upgrade from my 2g. This was all just out of pure curiosity.

I wish people would stop posting useless trash that isn't on topic. It's Apple tech support. call and ask yourself and you will get the same information. It's not like calling best buy and believing that a new ipod will come out 1 month after a new one was just released because they posted pictures of a case with a hole in it.

Because continuing to post threads like this is pointless. We already knew everything about the iPod touch that the OP was told.

I thought the new iPod touch DID have an oleophobic screen...
