I have two separate questions concerning my new iPod touch 32G.

First, I was using a new iPod touch 8G model (3G) for a few weeks before returning it.
    I now have a new 32G model.

I understand there are some differences between these models:
    - 32G vs. 8G
    - Different CPU
    - 32G has mic with the headphones

Is it just my imagination or is the 32G model also heavier than the 8G model? It would make sense that it is heavier because it has more memory. Can anyone confirm this who has specific knowledge about this? I know we would just be talking about a few grams.

Secondly, I would like to know if I can initialize the new 32G model without installing iTunes? Is it possible, and if so how can I do it? I did a format of my hard drive recently and so iTunes is no longer on it and truthfully, I'd rather not have it installed on my computer if I can help it.

If iTunes is necessary to initialize the iPod (a crazy thing in my opinion) can I do this online somewhere, say at.... oh... possibly the Apple site?

according to the apple store specs; it shows that they are both 115 grams. no difference. and to MY knowledge you cannot initilize t because it doesnt have the firmware on it, and 'initilizing' it is actually putting the firmware on it.

and i think it is very stupid not to make the ipod work right out of the box. like the iphone it needs it for activation but i cant be that much more difficult.

I also saw the same specs you did. However they say this is the average weight. What I am looking for is someone who has or had these two new models and was able to weight them, back to back to compare their weights. I'm sure someone on this site has done this.

So do I. I'd just like to make it work right out of the box using something other than iTunes.

In the meantime. Is there a site online that has the iTunes software?
A site where I can go to and initialize my iPod without downloading the software?
    TIA

Why are you so opposed to iTunes?

You can't fully utilise an iPod touch without iTunes.

Get over your prejudice and install it.

I'm sorry, any app that takes up more than 1G of disk space is simply sick!
After I initialize my Ipod, iTunes is going in the garbage.
    ------------------double post merged------------------
OK so how do I get back my 1g of disk space now?
I deleted iTunes and only got back 100-200 Megs!
Anyone here know? It's an XP system.
