I am an amateur at GIMP, and I thought it would be a nice way to improve my skills by designing all the different elements of a website using GIMP, and probably assemble it using a WYSIWYG editor with CSS integration (Kompozer). I don't know HTML or CSS, but I'll fight my way through

    .

So here's what I came up with so far. It's just a start, nothing fancy:

I'll keep it updated if I decide to go through on this one.

The navigation is nice, just make the tabs a bit bigger. Not a fan of the gradient header, just my opinion but try reversing the gradient see if it looks any better.

    I'll try it.

And just a quick question - what is the typical width of a website in pixels? I want it to fit on most monitors, but I don't want it to appear too small on large monitors.

    Suggestions?

Most content sizes are 900px, navbar I always set as 100% so it fits across the whole screen. There isn't a specific size for websites.
