I want to use the Touch as a portable PDF reader. I read that you can't read PDFs except through the Safari web browser and that you have to be connected to the Internet while you are doing it!

In other words, you can't read PDFs off-line?! HACK OR CRACK WANTED ASAP.

I wonder if Apple could use Sqlite3 as a light weight database to store content offline, and provide a groovy API for developers to use. Sorta like an uber cookie.

    mmm, uver cookie!

that would be cool, i am unfamiliar with Sqlite, but i guess it is a light version of SQL. i wish Apple would open SOMETHING to the dev. teams other than the damn web browser.

you need filemark maker which encodes a PDF (or other file) as a URL which you bookmark in safari and sync to mobile safari on the touch.

Sorry Mac or clever linux people only

cool, i've not got a mac, so i've had the fun of hacking the perl stuff to make bookmarks using my linux virtual machine, which got a bit nasty, and so far I haven't actually found a use for it.
