This is quite a low blow to Apple, Palm is basically allowing people to modify the webOS on their Palm Pre, sort of like jailbreaking our iPod touches:

This may also lead to running different OS's on your Pre, such as Android. Since it comes with 8GB internal storage, I wouldn't mind giving 4GB to Android. I wouldn't doubt seeing a 16GB model hitting stores soon to compete with the iPhone 3G pricing and storage:

I just hope the jailbreak community becomes as active as the iPod touch community! Now I am wondering whether I should get a Pre, or wait for Android to come to Sprint via an HTC model. Hmmmmm.

EDIT: This got me thinking, what if Saurik ported Cydia or some sort of package manager to the webOS (Pre OS). I was reading his tweets and I saw that he recently went to Sprint and picked up a Pre. So, I shot him an email and I will post the results if he emails me back.

EDIT 2: A site I wish not to name came out with a tutorial on how to "jailbreak" the pre.
    Windows:
    1. Download the most current webOS image
    2. Rename the webOS image file to .zip, and extract it
    3. Put your Palm Pre in developer mode by typing the Konami code: upupdowndownleftrightleftrightbastart. After your Palm Pre reboots plug it in to your computer
    4. Find the following file in your extracted folder: webosdoctorp100ewwsprint/resources/NovacomInstaller_x86.msi and run it
    5. Install Python 2.6 from http://www.python.com
    6. Get the rooter from subversion at Saurik’s site: http://svn.saurik.com/repos/webos-dev/trunk/rooter/
    7. Run the file talk.py inside of the rooter in subversion, and it’ll output a bunch of lines. If you see an error, join the Pre Wiki IRC at irc.freenode.net #webos-internals
    8. Turn your Pre’s WiFi on, and get your Pre’s IP address. Now you can telnet into it using the username root!

    Mac:
    1. Download the most current webOS image
    2. Rename the webOS image file to .zip, and extract it
    3. Untar the resources/NovacomINstaller.pkg.tar.gz folder
    4. Run the NovacomInstaller.pkg package
    5. Click through the installer
    5. Put your Palm Pre in developer mode by typing the Konami code: upupdowndownleftrightleftrightbastart. After your Palm Pre reboots plug it in to your computer
    6. Connect your Palm Pre to your Mac
    7. Open terminal and type in the following commands:
    Code:
    cd /opt/nova/bin
    ./novaterm
    8. At this point you should now have root access to your Palm Pre!

    EDIT 3:
An NES emulator has been released: http://predev.wikidot.com/nintendo
    Doom has also been ported
    Let the modding begin.

Thanks, I am really considering the Pre, people at Cnet like it and I have heard very positive things about it. I am going to wait it out and see if it gets more memory, or if Android hits Sprint by the end of this year.

Yes it does! My contract is up in January, but I am probably going to upgrade before that. I want a smartphone that does not run Windows Mobile, and have been hearing SO much rumors on Android coming to Sprint in October. So I am going to wait 3 months and see what happens.

Everybody is saying the HTC Hero, so when I read SumDaii's thread about it being released, I immediately opened Sprint's website. But, it's not there yet. It is rumored to come in October.
