Hey guys, I might be getting one of those shiny new macbooks soon and I have some questions:

    1) Does Apple give any student discounts or something for High School students? If so how do you qualify? Are there any other ways to save somehow?

    2) Does Apple have any promotion dates? I am going to run into quite an expensive laptop and I need anything that can cheapen its cost

    3) I am getting the 2.4 GHz model and also 4GB of RAM, are apple overpricing there RAM? If they are overpricing it where can I get 4GB of DDR3 RAM for cheaper?

    4) What is the difference between DDR3 and DDR2 RAM? If I get 4GB of DDR2 RAM will it fit into the macbook?

    Thanks guys!

    1. I don't think so. If you look here it says college student teacher or faculty or k-12 teacher of faculty, however if you order online i do not know if they have a way of checking. just select your k-12 school.

    2. They don't usally have price drop promotions. Usually when they do have am its before school starts. it looks like the only current one they have is get $100 of if you buy a printer with it(buy a $100 printer and sell it for $100)

    3. YES apple is way overpriced. I recomend www.macsales.com or www.newegg.com

    4. I may not be correct on this one, however i think ddr3 is faster. i am also pretty sure that ddr2 won't work.

    hope this helps

EDIT: found http://guides.macrumors.com/Buying_RAM. It is pretty helpful and i recomend you ready it. it talks about ram and will further answer your questions

    1. No. College only, I think.

    2. Nope.

    3. As said already, macdeals and newegg are great places for lower prices.

    4. The difference is latency in the RAM. Response time, I guess. Just take it as DDR3 is better

But it will NOT work with a machine that uses DDR2.

Ya but I mean which one is better? But its OK I will ask the Apple "Geniuses"

Also I heard there was some sort of screen problem with the macbooks, when will that be fixed? Some sort of hairline of gray or something

Also how should I protect it? The Bodyguardz or something?

    1. I believe so, for K-12. It's on Apple's site.
    2. I HIGHLY doubt it, the only price drop we would see would most likely be on the MacBook Air.
    3. Yes, go to crucial.com to get your RAM.
    4. DDR3 just is a different kind and apparently "better" but that is the only kind of RAM compatible with the new MacBooks/Pros.
