On May 17th Verizon is unveiling the new MiFi 2200 portable EV-DO router. In short, it is a hotspot that works (almost) anywhere you go. The device uses their 3G network and creates a WiFi that that up to five devices can pick up a the same time, which means that your iPod touch or other WiFi device can get internet on the go.

The unit itself costs $100 after a $50 mail-in rebate, and you can expect to pay a minimum of $40/month, which gets you 250mb - perhaps just a tad too pricey for the average iPod touch owner. The bottom line is an iPhone would probably be cheaper in the long run, but if you insist on using an iPod touch, and must have internet on the go, then this could be the solution.

Is it strictly per month or do you need a two year contract?

If it went down a bit in price and per month with a higher amount of data per month, I would buy it. Hope to see more products like this
