It is certainly understandable that features such as the compass and video recording are not available in the iPhone 3G 3.0 firmware upgrade because the iPhone 3G does not have the right hardware for such features. However, voice control is entirely a software feature. Is there a way to enable or port voice control to the iPhone 3G?

the video recording should be on 3G, its totally doable

cycorder is amazing, records video and audio really well. apple could also make it better if they wernt trying to make money on the 3GS

Now if you want the video recording software to work then by all means go to your M68AP.plist in SpringBoard.app and add in boolean "video-camera" and set it to 1 for yes in the capabilities dictionary. Presto! You get the video camera software. Notice how I said software... Oh you'll see.

y have u tried it? i dont think that it would work that well since its only made for the 3GS, but it doesnt mean apple cant make a lightweight program for the 3G.

but i might just give that a try to see how it is.

If activating the video recording _software_ is possible via adding the line to that plist, would it not mean that the 3G 3.0 firmware contains the voice control software too? Thus, can voice control be enabled by modifying a plist?

Pure speculation here, but it makes sense. I could likely be wrong.
