no because voice control is a hardware addition to the 3G

    I dont think so.

Because you can already record your voice and stuff into the 2nd gens, but you have to buy the mic. There is even an app that comes with it, it's the voice memo one.

I think they did it just to say that it has a "new feature", so it would sell more. It's basically a 2G that's supposedly a little faster.

No, MMS isn't new, nor is Voice Control, but it's new for their products, and unless you wanna do a buncha hassle and go through a bunch of 3rd party apps, you'll need the new 2gs.

cant someone just upload the voice control app and then we could all give it a try on other devices. it works on a 3g ipod touch, so it will probably work on a 2g ipod touch with a mic

No it wont. The problem with voice control with any iDevice is that only the 2009 products (3GS and 3G Touch) can read 'Stage 7' if you like. The devices release before 2009 can only read up to 'Stage 6'. That's why it is impossible to just copy the app over.

What needs to be done is the whole Voice Control app needs to be re-written to Stage 6 so that all devices can read it. That's going to take some time. However, it is already in progress along with enabling Video Recording in the native camera app. It *should* be out in early 2010.

I hope I have cleared things up for ya!

PS: The app is called Blackra1nb0w. Google it and see what comes up!

As iPod.Touch said, the voice control app for iPt3G only runs on the iPt3G processor, if you copy it over to any other iPod, it simply won't run.
