    I would like to know if any programmers know a good place to learn this(tutorials or something). I'm currently in the class right now and finals are coming up and I'm going to have to know how to write a program from scratch by myself.

    I think it's going to be a calculator and one of the things he said required was a "for loop"

    i think he means, how to write a program including the for loop in XXX language in VS.
    either basic, or C++ (im assuming) if this is the case, just google "for loop tutorial XXX language" and you should find some nice tuts.

    i cant really help you unless i know what language ur working with.

    for i = 0 to i = 19
    do something
    next i

    Will do something 20 times. Then carry on with whatever code is below it unless you use return or its in a function or subroutine by itself.

    I told you I stink at/with programming. I thought VB was the language.

    Thanks though for the links!

    What if you have an inputbox and you want something to run as many times as the user input?
    What do you set i = ?

    Ok well, I never programmed in Basic so I can't help you with any syntax...
    but, just to clarify

    Visual Studio is just an IDE.
    An IDE is something that helps you organize your files better, easy compiling with buttons and such.

    Visual is a IDE developed by Microsoft to help you in programming.

    For instance, C++ is a language... it can be written in notepad, and run, and work fine...
    but for bigger proejcts, you might want to ease your work with an IDE for instance Microsoft makes Visual Studio for C++ too. but there are many other IDE's available for C++.

    hope that helped.

    you will need to set it to your input

    so it would be something like this in C++. input is user assigned
    Code:
    for (int i = 0; i < input; i++)
                 {
                  statement here
                 }

    i = 0 to i = cint(textbox.text)
