I am operating Vista Home Basic and I am the owner and Administrator. I have downloaded iTunes 8 and had the following error when the installation neared the end. This means I have a shiny, new and expensive 16G iPod Touch that I can't use. Great. Is iTunes the only way I can ever use my iPod?

Further to the above I have also tried installing v.7.5 with exactly the same result.

I have tried that with both versions, exactly the same result.

My Vista came ready installed on my Dell computer so I have to assume it's a legitimate sample.

Maybe you should go change the permissions of that file through a command prompt

try upgrading your vista cause it installed on my vista premium easily. although you might want to consider deleting your copy of vista and doing a clean install of it.

i dont know about that error you got but i once couldnt install itunes on my vista and what i did is make a new user with administrator privileges of course, then i had put itunes installer on my public folder. then log off.. sign in to the new user and you know how it works..
