Just looking...No Dock Application found. Not in installer installed and not found on the pod per FTP. But i´ve changed my Dock backgroundimage by changing the SBDockBG.png in summerboard to have the oldscool dock back. I´ve found this png somewhere in the internet

I'd guess it's loaded up when that app is launched again and placed on screen for a second while the data is being loaded and is then replaced with live data... but that's totally speculation. Anyone have any other ideas what they'd be used for?

100% Correct - I replaced the mobilephone jpg with the mobilesafari jpg and when I launched Phone, it showed my safari screen for about .75 seconds and then switched to my contact view.

    Puh, thanks, johnInSJ

Don't fret, I never reall investigated this very much, but I found the same thing a while back when I was on 1.1.1..... anyway, the point is, these are only for apple apps right? I came to the conclusion that Apple was taking a screenshot of your last window state from within the app, then temporariy switching it with the default.png for a cleaner looking app startup.

So, that would be the mirrors part of the "smoke and mirrors" that the iphone/touch are really fast

My guess is, their human factors people figured out that most people don't do anything for the first 1-2 seconds when they launch an app, but if they are staring at a blank screen (or a spinning wheel) then they get all mad because the machine is "SLOW". So apple made this bit of eye candy to give us the illusion of a fast machine.

    Man, those guys are clever.

Yeah, probably so you don't get the ugly Application loading image.
The iPod is fast enough though at 412MHz, so I don't really see the need for this.
