Hey, I'm new at the forum, sorry to have my first post as a question, don't worry I'll stick around but I'm a windows user and my iPod touch 2G is coming tommorow. WOOT.

Anyway obviously you can only put .mov/mpeg (i think) onto itunes/ipod touch, I was wondering if there is any free software for windows that can convert the likes of avi etc to a supported file type. Im aware of some of them mac ones but obviously can't use them.

I was also wondering what the optimum resolution is for videos on the iPod touch.

    Thanks a lot.

You could try tunebite, but it's just a trial. Google it, it should come up. Here is the info on the resolution.

Wikipedia: Screen resolution: 480×320 px at 163 ppi, with 3:2 aspect ratio

He's not asking to convert DRM protected media. Just unprotected ones.

Why should he get Shareware that'll most likely do a shoddy job when he can get Freeware that can do (From my experience) better?

I'm not right all the time. I'm just stating how I feel and that he doesn't need to resort to spending money on something that he can do for Free.

Wound up? You think I'm angry or something? Wow. I'll just try to help this guy while you resort to direct attacks against me.

But anyway, to the Original Poster, you need no Shareware/Payware at all. There is plenty of Free Software available to suit your needs that do just as well if not Better than what Shareware offers.

iSquint was discontinued along with VisualHub. It is now the open source app called "FilmRedux". Which still needs a lot of developing.

There are alternatives meanwhile in my Signature.
