The battery hasn't impressed me at all on the new iPod touch 4G. It will last about 3 hours under normal usage. (very similar to my 2nd gen touch on iOS 4).

Also, unless I completely power it down, or put it in Airplane mode, the device will completely drain during the night.

    Are these battery issues normal?

Thats not normal. You should probably return it.If your battery is draining that quick thats probably not a good thing.

No. I played a few low-processor-intensive games (Rat on a Scooter, Slice It, Angry Birds, etc.), did some Internet browsing, and listened to music.

I'd be interested to hear how long your battery is lasting.

    Brightness?

My brightness is at around 1/8. I can get an easy 5 hours of low-processor gaming. If i mix it up right, I can get it to last two days, playing some games, music, and web browsing.

Plus, if you keep your wifi on at night, then it'll drain. I mean, it'll drain either way, but if the wifi is on, then it'll drain noticeably faster. But if your wifi isn't on and it goes down noticeably at night, then you could have a faulty battery.

Oh, mines at half brightness. Glad someone has reasonably similar battery, so I am now certain mine is not defective. I have also learned to use Airplane Mode when I go to sleep. I hope Apple solves these battery problems for good in the next firmware update.

It's not really a battery problem. It's kind of common sense that if you leave your wifi on, it'll drain the battery. Apple added this as a 'feature' to allow people to continue to receive push notifications while their device is locked.
