Is it possible to input data to the ITouch without using ITunes? So it becomes like an external drive?

Yes, but it won't be as easy as an USB stick.

    For USB accesss:
    • First, you need an appropriate version of iTunes on the PC you will access the iPod from.
    • Then you will have to use a program like iPhoneBrowser or iPhoneList (a TotalCommander plug-in is in the works too

). They are based on unofficial hacks into iTunes to transfer files, so it's probably not 100% safe.
    • There is still nothing that I know of that allows you to mount the iPod as a drive.

Other than that, you can use WinSCP, that's a Wi-Fi connection. Under Linux you can mount the iPod with sshfs. All that is slower and not very reliable (the connections tends to drop, is sometimes difficult to establish).

For the latter you need to jailbreak the iPod, maybe you can do without with the USB way but I'm not sure iTunes will like that.
