I searched for the answer to my question but I was unable to locate it.
A colleague of mine stated that the iPhone should not be used while it is charging.

Is this true or should I disregard what he said?

Absolutely false. The only time you shouldn't/cannot use your iPhone is when it is syncing with iTunes.

I don't think it's true...I mean if you want it to charge quicker then in some aspects it should not be used. But with general use I would say go for it

That is false 100%. The iPhone has a Lithium ion battery, and you can leave it plugged in all the time if you wish. There isn't a problem with Lithium ion batteries like there was with NiCad. You won't have a problem at all okay.
