Microphones are essentially speakers, just reversed. Because of this, it is possible to use earbuds as microphones for your pc. Just plug the earbud into the mic jack, and set it up, and it will work (or at least it should).

Here is an instructable deomnstrating what I mean : http://www.instructables.com/id/Earbud-Microphone/

But my question is, knowing that you can use the ipod earbuds as a mic, is it possible to make the ipod recognise it as a microphone, and use it as a free microphone for your ipod?

Actually, I just found something interesting
They are talking about iPod classics, and forcing them to recognise the headphone using the data port. So maybe a jailbroken app could force the ipod to recognize a mic all the time or something?
