    If I was to get a 2G, 3G iPhone, Or 3GS.

Can the phone be stripped from any of them to use just as a touch?

    Just Curious.

The iPhone can be used as an iPod Touch.

The only bonus, really, is the camera. Other than that it's pretty much exactly the same.

Does built in Mic mean nothing?
    Free software updates?
Mute button (for speaker)? (I know that's not that great, but still, btw I was reffering to silent mode)
    A higher quality back?
    Do these things mean nothing?

    Yes, they all mean nothing.

If I'm going to spend $400 on the best iPod touch as opposed to $700 on the lowest model iPhone, then they all mean nothing.

Well I wouldn't buy an unactivated/no sim iphone from AT&T or another carrier.
I would buy a used iPhone 2G or iPhone 3G of ebay.

    Exactly.
So all 2g, 3g and 3gs can be be used without a sim?
And what exactly has to be done to make them work that way.
