I had to ride the bus but i didnt know where i was supposed to get off so i downloaded the map off google maps. While i was on the bus we passed through many wifi networks which made my ipod update my location the whole way there. It was so funny to watch, i though the 3g had GPS for a second

I don't know if this is true, but I recall seeing somewhere that the iPod doesn't need to be on a WiFi network to update the location. It apparently pings the routers around you and finds your location that way (or something like that).

Maybe I'm wrong, but I recall reading it on this site a long time ago.

I was at my Grandparents this christmas, they don't have wifi, but I detected my location with maps.
