    Hello there!

I was wondering whether it's possible to assign different functions to the volume buttons on a jailbroken ipod Touch 2G.
Since I'm often listening to music when biking around it's hardly possible to get that brick out of my pocket, unlock it and skip a track.

It would very nice to have "track forward" on the Volume Up-Button and "track backward" on Volume Down (for example).

I heard that it was possible to do a comparable thing with the iPhone, si i guess somebody might be able to work this out.

Thanks in advance and greets from Germany

This has been posted quite an number of times though this does not look possible atleast till now. Maybe it will be built in in the 3rd gen?

It's possible, anything is, as long as the hardware is sufficient.

It'd have to be a MobileSubstrate Plugin

You can buy earphones with mic and button, like the ones that comes with the iPhone, or like the Sennheiser mm50ip.
There is a button on the earphones, with one click on it you pause/play the music, double click next song, triple click previous song.
    I have those earphones:

and the button & mic working great, sound quality isn't the great.

You can do this on a sony ericsson W850i, so im sure you'd be able to make it happen on an iPod touch as zunepod said, with a mobilesubstrate plugin

Couldn't you use touch pwn if that's not too much trouble?
Just swipe your finger across the screen.

BlackBerry Pearl 8100 has a feature like this. Press volume up once, it will turn the volume up one unit or whatever. Hold down the volume up button, and it will skip to the next track. I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to do. The opposite goes for the volume down button.

I was thinking of something along the lines of pressing the volume up/down+power button combo to skip tracks, similar to the way screenshots are taken. I'm sure this could be implemented if someone was prepared to work a little bit :/
