I'm currently developping a Windows program that allows users to install applications on the iPod with the USB connection only, no Wi-Fi needed, provided you have the AppTapp Installer on the iPod, and a compatible version of iTunes.

It is based on, and uses the AppTapp Installer, so compatibility is guaranteed. It is also based on the iPod USB file transfer code used in the T-PoT plugin I previously made for Total Commander, for those who know it. It has been tested on 1.1.2 and 1.1.3 (I've installed SummerBoard on 1.1.3 and a few other applications without any trouble at all).

Still... Big Warning: it's very, very alpha!

Expect the updates to be a bit slowish for now. But the program is functional, you can enter your repository sources in a file, it will scan them and let you choose which applications you want to install.

I will probably not have the time to help out if anyone crashes important files using this program, so it's best to wait if you are not at ease with a bit of hacking. Or wait until a few others have tested it successfully. In any case, read the information given on the website before trying it.

Here is the link to the project homepage: http://code.google.com/p/igopher/
(please don't post direct link to download files as it has been done before, use this URL only).

I hope you find it useful, please give some feedback!

Glad it works. Yes, I've also been wondering why there wasn't something like that already...

@ iPhoneBrowser and such... I don't see the comparison, it has absolutely not much in common. The T-PoT plug-in is comparable to those programs, although you have all the niceties of Total Commander with it, but this one is made to parse repositories and install applications on the iPod, not to transfer files.
