This is a discussion thread for the "US DOJ Sues Apple and Publishers Over Ebook Pricing" story posted on the front page.
I'm glad the government is showing its hand in this matter. I mean take a normal bestseller that retails for $24.95. The eBook version is often the same price. There is no reason for that, the book requires paper and ink to manufacture each copy while an eBook has zero costs to copy. I already bought a $500+ iPad Apple, why charge me the same book that I can get a physical copy? I haven't bought a single eBook from Apple yet.
yeah, exactly, ebooks should be Cheaper and DRM free, just like Apple forced the music industry to do.
Eh I don't know why the government would get involved. I mean, they should also sue potato farmers for how cheap a potato has gotten. I don't understand...
Price fixing is illegal, that's why the government is involved. If it was a single company raising their prices, it wouldn't be a problem, but when multiple companies get together and agree to raise prices, it's considered a violation of the antitrust laws.
Sadly I think Apple did the right thing here but may get burned for it. No one wants their work cheapened by Amazon selling it at a loss. Sure that's good for the consumer but not for the industry and the content creator.
In the case of fuel, the discussion becomes really political. If you'd like we can talk about it through PM, but we aren't allowed to post political discussion on this forum.
