I don't think you can. Have you backed up your SHSH files? If you have you would be able to by changing the host files.

So a brand new (bought in store) today iPod Touch 3rd generation 32 gb cannot be downgraded to 3.1.2. firmware, and thus can not be jailbroken?

If you are on 3.1.3 on a third generation iPod touch, and you didn't back up shsh files before upgrading, then you are stuck on 3.1.3. No jailbreak. No downgrade.

does the capacity of the device effect the jailbreaking capabilities?

Yes. Only the 8GB 3rd gen can be downgraded using a 2nd generation iPod touch firmware file. Cola found this method, a guide is around the forum.

Okay, so if you jailbreak any Touch, you cant sync / connect it to iTunes at all?
