    Hi all,

I've decided that i would like to upgrade to 4.1 from a jailbroken 3.1.2 on my 2g touch (mb model) as it's becoming increasingly unstable. When upgrading a jailbroken 2g touch, do I just do a shift-click restore or do I put the ipod into DFU mode then start the upgrade?

Also would I need to back up the SHSH blobs or not (i've seen conflicting info for 2g touches so any advice would be appreciated

    Thanks for reading

Forget about DFU. You can download TinyUmbrella to save blobs just so u have them.

Updating would be easier, but since your iPod is running unstable you should restore.

Restoring will wipe everything so you can start fresh.

    Save your shsh.
Put your device in DFU and click restore as it restores more cleanly.
    Jailbreak your iPod Touch

OK, Thanks for that. I'll do the shift click restore as i already have the 4.1 IPSW file sitting on my desktop.

Another quick question: If I don't put the ipod into DFU mode, will it result in a boot loop?

EDIT - Thanks to the the other members who posted as I was typing this reply.

I will jailbreak it sooner or later (ie. when i can get my hands on an XP box) using greenpoison

From my experience a boot loop shouldn't occur at all.

And also while your'e at it why not create a custom firmware that will be pre jailbroken.

That way you wont have to deal with jailbreak programs.

Restoring without shift+click restore can *PROBABLY* be more stable but I'm not 100% sure as you are restoring straight from Apple when you don't shift+click.
