sorry if there is already a thread on this, but i have to leave soon and i don't have time to search. Okay, here it goes. When iphone firmware 3.0 comes out, will i have to do anything to my jailbroken 2.2.1 ipod touch, or can i just upgrade it right off the bat. (i know that the jailbreak will be gone, i don't want it anymore anyways.) Thank you all very much for the help.

I would restore. I have had problems upgrading before, just restore to start fresh.

but the change is if u jailbreak u will have to restore it
I don't kno many people that have a successful first time jailbreak on 3.0

    I upgraded from a jailbroken 2.2.1 to 3.0 without restoring the 2.2.1.

You will lose all jailbroken apps from the 2.2.1 (does not include cracked apps, you keep those).

That's all you need to know. You can upgrade straight away without any hassle.
