Okay, so i have a first gen 8gb Ipod Touch, its jail broken and my firmware is 2.2, what i wanna know is how to upgrade to 2.2.1 safely, while still having the jailbreak. I've been lurking the forums for a while and right now what i got is to upgrade the ipod touch and jailbreak it again ?

Yes, you have to re-jailbreak after updating. If you have everything backed up on your computer, then you might as well restore to 2.2.1 just to clear things out. I think (not sure) that the upgrade also overwrites jailbroken apps.

Also, I think it not only overwrites the jailbroken data, but it becomes unreadable and all that space is wasted... so, just restore to 2.2.1

If u mean that ur iPod came with 2.2 and u want to update to 2.2.1 then yes all u have to do is download 2.1.1 firmware
OR if u mean downgrade to 2.2 from 2.2.1 u need to download the firmware

What about a full backup? I use categories and have MANY apps in different folders. Also offline wikipedia, offline maps, and the street view hack for the ipod touch. I don't really wanna re-set up my ipod - it's takes time and is a pain in the arse.
