It depends on if you want to jailbreak, if Apple prevents jailbreaking in the next model (I think they won't have the 24Kpwn in it, but that's just me).

Screw it, just get the 2g now, I don't know why everyone is so anxious for the *possible* 3.0 in September, You can later trade it in.

Wait 'til September no matter what.
~If you like jailbreaking, you can get a 2G for cheaper
~If you like the new features, you can get the 3G

    Win win.

Words cannot describe the feeling one gets when he/she buys an expensive device then gets smacked in the face with a new, faster, cooler, cheaper product a short while later. The secret to happiness with Apple products is wait for the new models, get them ASAP, then enjoy it until it becomes obsolete. (Of course you can enjoy it afterwards, but you know what I mean.)

Only buy the iPod now if you NEED it.

I'm suppose I think a bit differently. I tend to buy things on clearance/sale or when I can make deals. Clothes, shoes etc. I'm not one to buy something when it first comes out.
It largely depends what you want out of the iPod. More bells and whistles probably means more money.
I can always upgrade next year when everyone has figured out all the bugs and problems. Then I'll know exactly what I'm getting and some one or other would have worked out the solutions.

    Ya but...

this is apple, they don't do major discounts

the ipod touch 2g ended up being $70 cheaper for 8 and $100 cheaper for the 16 and 32

I got slapped in the face with the last ipod touch. I bought a 8gb and then a month later a shiny new ipod touch with SPEAKERS and BLUETOOTH and VOLUME ROCKERS!
