I have a jailbroken 1.1.3 ipod touch. I want to upgrade to 1.1.4 and jailbreak. I know i can do that much.I have heard that if you use the new Ziphone 2.6 and do the NVRAM you won't lose any apps in the JB, but i do not know if that is true. How would it work. If there is another easy way that would be great to know. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You should just make a list of your installed apps (not the jan update), restore to 1.1.4 and do the 2.6b jailbreak and then install your 3rd party apps. Your Jan update will be OK if you purchased them. Otherwise you can add them after the jailbreak. Good luck!

Some have backed up their app folder to the computer and then copied back, but I cannot say if this works. You may have symbolic links problems.

I second this opinion. I just did this earlier today. I wrote myself a lit of what needed to be done (copied and pasted below) to make sure i don't forget anything. Worked like a charm.

    write down extra installer sources

    in my case these were:
    1. applerepo.com
    2. http://ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml

make sure you don't have any notes you need to keep around
(you can email them to yourself)
make sure you don't have any bookmarks you don't want to lose

    **********
Restore to 1.1.4, jailbreak with ziphone 2.6
    **********

Install apps (in my case these were):

    Sources:
    Community Sources

    System:
    BSD Subsystem
    OpenSSH

    iPhone apps
    (from ipodtouchmaster's source for example)

    Utilities:
    HP-12C
    HP-15C

    Productivity:
    iStudy
    Sketches
    weDict

    Dictionaries:
    EDict
    English-Japanese
    Japanese-English

    Flashcards:
    Japanese Characters

    Add Japanese keyboard
copy over my own flash cards (the ones I created)

    add email accounts
    add bookmarks written down earlier

My iPod Touch is back to what it was before the process started.
Took about an hour start to finish (including restoring to 1.1.4 - as required by Ziphone)

Then I'd say you are out of luck... Backing up just the apps folder will most likely break at least some apps since they keep their prefs and other data they use elsewhere. Give it a shot - maybe it will work for you... But I wouldn't bank on it.
