I am on 2.0.1 right now, and want to update to 2.2. Now, my laptop screen died, so I plugged the HD from it into a external drive case and now I use it as an external drive on my other laptop. So, I run my itunes FROM MY OLD LAPTOP's HD. As expected, this causes some problems, such as cds will not burn, some music doesn't always transfer, and updates will always error.
So I need to do the update from a fresh install of itunes on another user account. My question is, will this erase all my music from my ipod if I update it within a itunes that has none of my music in it?
    Thanks

No. I updated on a new computer with no music on it. It will show a pop-up asking you if you want to either delete your music and start over, or skip it. Obviously, pick skip it.
