the best thing you can do is to get aptbackup

it backs up everything you get from cydia, then when you sync your ipod it adds it into the whole ipod backup

and when you have nothing left in the new 3.0 jailbroken one you go to cydia, redownload aptbackup and restore

thats what i have heard at least

you can get the list from aptbackup from the phone. Personally I think its better to do a manual installation using the list rather than the automatic restore since some stuff wont work properly with 3.0.

It depends on the type of jailbreak the dev team brings out. If it is like quickfreedom or quickpwn where it is just a nor flash, then nothing on your ipod will be changed. If it is like redtool or redsn0w, where a custom firmware is created, then you will have to restore you iPod with the custom firmware, losing your apps and having to re-sync them. If anything in this post is wrong feel free to correct it.

Edit: aptbackup will work for backing up your cydia apps and repos, just backup, save to computer, JB 3.0 and restore the backup.
    ------------------double post merged------------------
Why? It is a perfectly reasonable question, updating using the update button keeps your apps etc, and previous firmwares were able to be jailbroken with a nor flash, that doesn't affect your apps at all. If he did both of these, then he would have all his apps, on a JB 3.0.

Edit: I see your on a 2G iPod touch. Because of the exploit for this iPod, a nor flash is out of the question. AFAIK anyway. The exploit lies in the bootrom, which needs to be patched, and then after a firmware has to be custom made to take advantage of this exploit. I'm not sure if this is how the 24KPWN patch works but I'm pretty sure it is how the previous one worked.
